Scores of Bolton residents braved the rain this evening (19th Nov) to attend the Bolton Christmas Lights switch on 2015 in Victoria Square.
The event run by Bolton Council and which was sponsored by The Market Place shopping centre saw local acts a plenty including well known Bolton groups Father and Son and Jade Assembly and Solo performances were delivered by local singers Aaron Jones and Redd.
Emmerdale star and local actress Sammy Winward ably took to the stage with the team at Tower Fm and a very special local girl Kiera Byland, Kiera has learning difficulties as well as some autistic traits and borderline dyspraxia.
Kiera is 16 and has represented Great Britain in cycling at the national Special Olympics.she decided to take up cycling after watching her dad ride at the Velodrome around four years ago.Since then she has impressed her coaches, teachers and parents to become a real star in the making.
She competes in the mainstream cycling world as a member of Eastlands Velo Cycling Club, racing in the Monday night ACT track league and is also a member of Manchester Wheelers.
In August 2014, she competed at the National Special Olympics cycling event in Tameside and was then selected to represent Team GB in the road race events at the Special Olympic World Games in California in July 2015
Due to weather and safety concerns there were no fireworks but that did not stop the party atmosphere.
There were performances from the cast of Jack and the Beanstalk from the Macron stadium and the BFG cast from the Octagon; Bolton Children’s Workshop; and Angels Dance group kept the crowd bouncing along and the fabulous Rock Choir performed a medley of tunes to get everyone in the Christmas Spirit.
