The life of a fundraiser #2 by Tracey Wilkinson

Week commencing 22nd February 2016

The aim of my weekly blog is to give you an insight behind the scenes of the life of a fundraiser. I have been a volunteer fundraiser for a number of years whilst also working full-time. Last week was my first blog and I got some great comments. One suggestion from last week was to give my readers links of places, organisations, companies, charities that I mention. Blog #2 I hope you enjoying reading and please feel free to share.

Monday 22nd February 2016

Early shifts this week at work not the biggest fan of getting up at 5:30am. After work I went collecting some donations for the pre loved baby stall and bric a brac at the Easter Family Fun Day.

Followed by visiting my local garden centre Garden Seat with Stephen Tonge to discuss planter options for the first ever Kearsley in Bloom ( Click HERE for details)

tracey blog 2The Kidd brothers at the garden centre were so helpful and really want to support this community project. The Giant Seat Garden Centre in Ringley was massively affected by the floods on Boxing Day and have since been working hard to get things back on track, so for them to want to be involved in Kearsley in Bloom it means their community spirit was dampened by the water.

Tuesday 23rd February 2016

As I previously said in last week’s blog I attempt to have one weekday night off a week from doing anything charity/volunteer related it really helps to clear my mind. Tonight I got to catch up with a friend who I haven’t seen in a while and do some of my favourite past times shopping, talking and eating.

Wednesday 24th February 2016

A chilly afternoon re-adjusting banners for the Easter Family Fun Day and dropping off posters and flyers in the area. Warmed up just in time for this evening’s #CommunityCorner on Bolton FM  Tony was away in Spain & Elaine is still living it up in London so it was just David & I on tonight’s show. We interviewed the lovely Sarah “with her own jingle” Lever from Bolton CVS  and I learnt all about the components and chemicals found in Shisha pipe which were truly shocking. Moving onto “shocking” our second guest was Courageous Connah a 15 year lad from Darwen who helped perform CPR on a cardiac arrest victim in Rivington for 15 minutes before the arrival of the emergency services who shocked the patient several times with the defibrillator. The great news is that the chap concerned is in a stable condition in hospital awaiting a heart bypass. Being an avid fundraiser of defibrillators and raising awareness of CPR I personally couldn’t be any prouder of Connah’s actions. Connah wants me to go into his school to teach hisfriends CPR and how to use a defibrillator which I willingly said yes.

Thursday 25th February 2016

Arrived home from work to find the husband had spent the day clearing out the garage which meant only one thing a pile of boxes and bags of fundraising items to sort out. On the positive note I found some items for the Bric a Brac and Hoopla stall for the Easter Family Fun Day. My eyes spent the evening catching up watching my favourite TV shows whilst my hands were folding up raffle tickets for the Easter Family Fun Day tombola stalls.

Friday 26th February 2016

Made arrangements with Emma one of the Easter Fun Day sponsors from Home Xperts Radcliffe & Farnworth in relation to the distribution of 5,000 flyers in the area. Great support from local businesses really helps with organising local events.. Spent an hour answering messages, emails and arranging meetings.

Saturday 27th February 2016

Morning spent doing the mind blowing task of drawing out the floor plan for the Easter Family Fun Day. This is an even bigger task than the year before because we have much more activities and stalls going on this year. Followed by an unexpected visit from Lagan’s Foundation’s CEO Carren Bell.

We are two busy women so it was nice to sit down to chat, catch up and talk about what the future holds for Lagan’s Foundation

Sunday 28th February 2016

Dropped off a few posters at local shops for the Easter Family Fun Day. Afternoon tweeting and finishing off the floor plan for the Easter Family Fun Day and recruited a new volunteer for Lagan’s Foundation.
