The life of a fundraiser #6 by Tracey Wilkinson

Week commencing 21st March 2016

Firstly I must apologise for my 6th Blog being late this was basically due to being extremely busy with the lead up to an event. However here it is this addition is purely about the week leading up to the Easter Family Fun Day, everything else goes out the window. Working full time and the lead up to an event is always a difficult one, with not enough hours in my day. My weekly blog will give you a small insight into my life as a fundraiser and volunteer within my community. Being a fundraiser can be very tiring especially leading up to an event like this week but it is also very rewarding.

Monday 21st March 2016

One week to go until the big Easter Family Fun Day this week is going to be spent finalising everything and finishing off anything that I’ve not yet done. At the event there will be a raffle and I find that small raffle tickets are always to fiddly to write people’s numbers on so I’ve decided to print my own raffle slips that people have enough space to write their details on. Once I had made these tickets and printed them I had to cut each one up individually which is very time consuming but these tickets are also much better for folding. I have made them generic so that the ones that aren’t used can be used again for another event. I finished off writing a list of all the auction prizes and posted them again on facebook to gain interest before the event and organised silent auction slips and envelopes for people to use to bid at the event.

Tuesday 22nd March 2016

I have now received the majority of the raffle prizes for the Easter Family Fun Day. A local resident Kerri helped to obtain some great prizes alongside contacts I used to obtained prizes. I also had prizes donated from business who had seen the event and just wanted to support it. Tonight I spent compiling the list of prizes and got very emotional at the amount of generous donations, with over 60 prizes this is going to be one long raffle draw.

Wednesday 23rd March 2016

Some more last minute pick up’s today including more raffle prizes from Kerri, she’s been an amazing support with gaining raffle prizes. Also I popped round to another local resident’s house Lisa to collect an amazing donation of items for the pre-loved baby stall including baby gates, highchairs, toys and much more. I am always overwhelmed by the generosity of local people. This evening unfortunately I was too busy to go into Bolton FM which really disappointing but with an event just around the corner I need the hours to finish off everything.

Thursday 24th March 2016

After finishing work I had a long list of things I needed to pick up this included some last minute raffle prizes and donations of bottles for the tombola. I also met up with Craig from The Lancs Leafleter who was delivering 5000 leaflets around the area of Kearsley for the fun day. Craig’s done an amazing job and only 500 leaflets to go.

Our next event for the Kearsley Festival Group is Kearsley in Bloom and the fun day is a great opportunity to let the people of Kearsley know about this event. So I have a team of people who have volunteered to give out our leaflets at the event. So I had to go and collect the flyers from the printers Craftprint in Horwich. The flyers were designed by my amazing older brother he designs all my flyers/posters and does a great job.

Friday 25th March 2016

My husband Michael finished making me wooden stakes so I could finally stick my laminated signs on the stakes for the event. All the signs also are labelled with my event sponsors who sponsored individual fundraising stalls. I’m going to take this opportunity to thank the following local businesses who have sponsored the event, there support is really appreciated. Those businesses are Home Xperts Radcliffe & Farnworth, The Neighbourhood Barbers, Eden Photography, Easy Lawn Turf, Adam’s Plumbing, Bolton Christmas Trees and not forgetting Bolton Council who have financed myposters, flyers and Bolton FM roadshow.

Tonight I started to complete my packing of everything into boxes ready to be transported to the cricket club. I will be very happy when my house is no longer full of boxes in every room and we can walk around the house without tripping over things.

Saturday 26th March 2016

Well today I have an extremely busy day collecting items that could only be collected today because of their shelf life this includes visiting 4 florists and 2 bakeries. These donations were for raffle prizes, flowers for the Mayor Carole Swarbrick who is opening the Easter Family Fun Day, Scones for creamteas and Macaro0ns for the cake stall.

Sunday 27th March 2016

This afternoon was the final big task of transporting everything from my house to the cricket club ready for tomorrow’s big event. Luckily I had the support of my amazing family and Carren Bell from Lagan’s Foundation. The group of us packed up 4 cars full which needed then putting in some order at the cricket club for easy access the following day. After a very busy week I then went off to bed for an early night and lots of prayers for good weather in the morning.
