2016 tanzania

In July 2016 a group of 14 students from Thornleigh Salesian College Sixth Form will be heading out to Tanzania to spend a month in the town of Moshi.

The trip will be led by Mrs Burrowes, Thornleigh Salesian College’s Headteacher with support from Mr Fairly, Mr Burrowes, Miss Brown and Fr Bob Gardner.

Each of the students going on the trip took part in a rigorous interview process which included them making a five minute presentation. All the interviews were held in Thornleigh House and Father Bob Gardner had the difficult task of selecting the 14.

Students will have the fantastic opportunity to volunteer at a local clinic, hospital and Primary and Secondary schools. Whilst there, students will also have the opportunity to teach, organise games and activities and get to know the local community.

This trip will be a life changing experience for all who are going.

The students have been working together to try and fundraise as much as they can before the trip to help lower costs and to also provide resources to take over to the schools and clinics that they will be volunteering in.

They have organised several events in and outside of school. So far, they have held an Old School Disco and a Music Night for Tanzania, which was produced and performed by students of our Sixth Form. On April 29th, a Vegas Night will be held at the school to also raise funds, with an amazing performance from Elvis!

The night consists of an amazing Elvis tribute act, magician and singer. But it wouldn’t be Vegas Night without a casino, so you can try your hand at Black Jack, Roulette or the Wheel of Fortune!
