Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme set to ride coast to coast this weekend

This weekend Crompton Place is welcoming its charity of the year, Bolton Young Persons Housing Scheme (BYPHS), to the centre for an ambitious 192-mile bike-ride – all done without ever leaving the mall.

Seven brave and willing participants will be pedalling from 11:30am to 5pm on Saturday all whilst on two static bikes that have been kindly loaned by David Lloyd Gym. The distance they’ll be travelling is the equivalent of going from St Bees on the west coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay on the east coast of North Yorkshire.

Maura Jackson, Chief Executive of BYPHS, said she couldn’t wait for the team to get pedalling this weekend. “We’re delighted that we’re able to come into Crompton Place for this challenge,” she said. “Activities such as this endurance ride are really important for us as we want to raise awareness of BYPHS to the public, so that they can see how much support is needed to help young, homeless people in Bolton. Our target for the year is to raise an additional £10,000 so that we can continue with our important work across the town.”

Crompton Place Centre Manager, Paula Wood, said she was thrilled to be able to welcome BYPHS on Saturday. “This is such an important cause and when we announced our charity of the year in May we made a commitment to BYPHS and I’m really pleased that we’re able to support them with this challenge. I’ve seen first-hand how kind-hearted our shoppers are, and I’m sure this weekend everyone will get behind the riders. 192 miles is truly remarkable distance to do in one day.”

As well as those furiously pedalling across Saturday those not riding will be collecting generous donations from shoppers.
