Check out Bolton’s first Vegan Fair!

As a food blogger, keen cook and long-term veggie, I was excited to learn that Bolton will soon be hosting it’s first ever Vegan Fair. The fair is the brainchild of local lass Rachel West, and she has managed to pull together an impressive and varied programme for the day.

The fair is taking place on Saturday 27th August which, by happy coincidence, is actually during the four-day Bolton Food & Drink Festival. Whether you are already a veggie or vegan, or just thinking about following a healthier and more ethical diet and lifestyle, it’s a great opportunity to find out more about the vegan way of life, the wide range of products available locally and how to use them.

Welcoming everyone of all ages, this large and varied  fair features 55 different stalls to tempt your taste buds, with hot foods such as Mexican delights,  hot dogs,  oriental foods, pancakes, popular traditional Turkish filled flat breads and sweet treats as well as a range of artisan chutneys to take home and savour later.

As you munch, you will also have the chance to browse a huge range of beauty and body products which haven’t been tested on animals, such as clothing,  candles and crystals. Local wildlife groups, activist groups and pet rescue projects will be on hand to give information about their work and opportunities to get involved. Look out for beautiful Misha, the rescued Greyhound, who will be at the fair.

Babies and toddlers can play with toys at the family stall, whilst parents or parents-to-be find out more about vegan nutrition for pregnant women and for growing babies and children.  Why not try a Reiki taster session,  reflexology or a seated massage to chill you out for the weekend?

Lots of stalls are local businesses, so this fair is a great chance to support support small local ethical enterprise and support new projects looking for a chance to get started.

The fair is taking place at the Victoria Halls, and access to the fair is from the back entrance, off Ridgeway Gates from Deansgate.  Admission is just £1 and the fair is open from 10am to 5pm.
