Strongmen and women from throughout the UK are preparing for battle at the sixth annual ‘Strongman Bolton’ championships, taking place over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd October at Bolton’s USN Arena.
The popular competition will see the return of athletes taking on eye watering challenges including shield holds, pressing car axles, the strongman shot putt, vehicle pulls and deadlifts weighing over 250 kilos. This years special guest, ten times worlds strongest man athlete, Mark Felix, will also be supporting the competitors and greeting the crowds.
First held in 2010 on a small high school playground in Farnworth, the event’s popularity has grown year on year and now attracts competitors from as far away as the North of Scotland, London and the Channel islands.
And the Strongman challenges are just one part of this big family weekend. Being dubbed as the ‘Bolton Town Show’ in recent years, the lively event also includes traditional family attractions such as stalls, demos, games, sports and a variety of childrens activities.
Event organiser Andy Seddon said “It’s brilliant to see the event grow every year from that small idea back in 2010, to the success it is today. Myself, my family and the team are very proud to have welcomed hundreds of athletes and thousands of visitors to Bolton over the last few years. Families love the show and the Strongmen and women are truly inspiring to see.”
Sponsored by Bolton firms, Cole Security services, 247 Gymwear and Bizspace, this years highly anticipated event looks destined for even more success. Further details and ticket info can be found on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/Strongmanbolton and http://www.boltontownshow.co.uk
