Review: Romesh Ranganathan “Irrational” at The Lowry, Salford

Last night myself and Carole (The Bolton Live Sub-Editor) headed up to Salford to The Lowry to watch Romesh Ranganathan`s new stand up show “Irrational”

The last couple of years have been immense for Romesh with not one but two critically acclaimed Edinburgh Festival shows so the expectation was high for this to be as good as “Rom wasn`t built in a day” and “Rom Com” not to mention the expectation heaped on him from his variety of appearances on television shows including BBC1’s ‘Live At The Apollo’, ‘Jack Dee’s HelpDesk’, ‘Have I Got News For You’, (plus many more) and his very well received “Asian Provocatuer”

The auditorium was packed with expectant comedy fans who turned out in droves to see Romesh and suffice to say they were not disappointed!

“Irrational” gives Romesh the chance to visit the issues that he believes in and takes exact pleasure in telling us all exactly why everyone else is wrong and he is in the right (Speaking as a vegan..obviously) no matter how controversial and sweary / innnapropriate that may be.

The show also gives Romesh the chance to explore his world view in relation to his family (He laments that his mum is more famous than he is) and work life and had the audience belly laughing constantly for an hour and a half.

Romesh has a unique style that works very well in a one man show such as “Irrational” and his ability to blast gag after gag is something that just has to be seen to be believed. He is a master at dealing with an audience and can improvise beautifully with audience participation . He has an amazing stage presence and the themes explored (and adult content) may not be to some peoples taste but personally i loved every minute of it (In fact as i am revisiting the show in my head for this review i can not stop myself from chuckling)

Blisteringly sharp and accomplished,  Romesh has played a blinder with this new show and audiences across the country are going to love it. He has certainly come a long way from his humble beginnings as a maths teacher…..

Final Verdict: ☆☆☆☆☆

An amazing stand up show that has to be seen to be believed! If you get a chance to catch the tour on it`s run across the country i suggest you book tickets asap.
