Half term holiday highlights


There are lots of exciting half-term activities taking places in venues throughout Bolton borough, here’s a handy checklist: 

Bolton Central Library and Museum


Arty Babies! Tuesday 25 October, 10.30am  –  A fortnightly art group who use the collections and resources to inspire creative play and sensory activities. Suitable for ages 0 to 2.

School holiday activities, Tuesday 25 and Thursday 27 October                                                 Fish feeds take place on Tuesday and Thursday at 1pm. This half term we are celebrating Manchester Science Festival so there will be themed activities on Tuesday and Thursday from 1.30pm to 3pm. Suitable for ages 4 to 11.

Cinema at the Crescent – Hotel Transylvania 2, Wednesday 26 October, 2pm                       It’s half –term! Come along and watch this ghoul-tastic family film in the Central Library Lecture Theatre. Under 12 year olds must be accompanied by an adult.

Toddler Tales Halloween special, Friday 28 October, 11am     –   Come in your favourite costume, hear stories, sing rhymes and make a Halloween themed craft. Toddler Tales are storytelling sessions for children under 5, their mums, dads and carers. All Toddler Tales are free and there is no need to book.

 Super Saturday, 29 October, 11am to 3.30pm    –  Join us for free activities for the whole family. This month’s theme is Fashion.


Community Libraries:

The Creepy Crawly experience, Breightmet Library, Tuesday 25 October, 12.30pm to 1pm

You are invited to experience REAL creepy crawlies at Breightmet Library this half-term. You will have the chance to handle live hissing cockroaches, dead-leaf cockroaches and stick insects! You will also have the opportunity to see some museum animal specimens. Come and take a walk on the wild side! Suitable for the whole family. Children under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Please call Breightmet Library on 01204 332352 to book your free place.

Halloween event, Horwich Library, Wednesday 26 October, 2pm to 3pm   –  Come along to our ghoul-tastic Halloween session where you can make a Monster Mask, decorate your own Trick or Treat box to take home and there will be magical colouring activities.

Spooky stories and witches’ masks, Westhoughton Library, Thursday 27 October, 2pm to 3pm   –  Come and hear some spooky stories and make your own witches’ mask.

Halloween Spooky Stories, Bromley Cross Library, Thursday 27 October, 5pm to 6.30pm Join us for a ghoul-tastic Halloween session where you can join in activities, crafts, themed trail and Graveyard Colouring Competition. Prize for best Halloween outfit! 

Spooky stories and Halloween Lanterns, Westhoughton Library, Saturday 29 October, Listen to some spooky tales and create your own lantern to take home.

Happy Halloween, Farnworth Library, Monday 31 October, 4pm   –  Come dressed in your Halloween outfits! Listen to some spooktacular stories and join in our ghoul-tastic games and crafts.

Spooky stories and creepy crafts, Harwood Library, Monday 31 October, 4pm to 5pm Halloween is here and the nights are drawing in…so join us at Harwood Library to listen to some spooky stories and make a creepy craft to take home. Celebrate in style by coming in Halloween costume if you like!


Historic Halls events:

Manchester Science Festival – Young Inventors at Hall i’ th’ Wood Museum, Tuesday 25 October, 12pm to 2pm   –  In this workshop, young inventors are invited to talk about new ideas and discover Bolton’s engineering history. Booking is required (www.manchestersciencefestival.com).

Smithills Hall’s Halloween event, Wednesday 26 October   –  Come along for a spooktacular Halloween session where you can join in activities, crafts and ghost trail around the historic hall. The free drop in session will run from 12pm to 2pm.

Plus to be in with a chance to win a Family Portrait courtesy of Heather’s B’s Photography Studios come along in your Halloween costume and have your photo taken. The Little Pumpkins competition will run from 11am to 3pm.
