Entries open at 9am on Wednesday, October 26 for the world’s largest Ironkids event – in Bolton.

The race, which will be held on Saturday, July 15, 2017, has become a key fixture on Bolton’s events calendar following its introduction in 2012.

For the last two years 2,500 children have competed, and the 2017 event is set to be the biggest global Ironkids once again.

Families are advised to enter early to avoid disappointment as organisers are expecting all 2,500 places to be filled up quickly.

The main Ironman event – a gruelling 140.6mile triathlon – takes place in and around Bolton the following day and limited places are still available.

To enter Ironkids, which takes place in the town centre, parents or guardians need to complete an entry form HERE Fee is £3 per child.

Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Youth, Cllr John Byrne, said: “Ironkids is always a brilliant event, which grows in popularity each year.

“It’s one of our biggest sporting events and entries sell out quickly. Children love it and come back year on year to do it and who knows, it could be the making of our future Ironman UK athletes!

“Ironkids together with the Ironman triathlon brings a real boost to the town.”

Bolton’s Ironkids race is open to children aged three to 14 with different distances depending on the school year of the child.

Children currently in school year one and below compete in a 500m run (accompanied by a parent/guardian); those in years two to five run 1km, years six to eight run 1.5km and those in years nine to 10 complete a 2.5km run.

Each child will receive an Ironkids t-shirt in their entry pack and a medal after completing their run.

Ironman UK Race Director, Sam Brawn, said: “Ironkids is always a spectacular way to kick start the Ironman race weekend in Bolton.

“The event continues to grow, and once again leads the way as the world’s largest, run only Ironkids event.

“We are grateful for the help and support of Bolton Council and local volunteers who make this event possible for the 2500 athletes of the future.”
