Join in with the centenary celebrations of Roald Dahl with George’s Marvellous Medicine, the hilarious stage adaptation of the classic children’s tale.
First published in 1981 George’s Marvellous Medicine is one of Dahl’s funniest and most exciting stories all about a young boy who makes a marvellous new medicine to cure his grandmother of her terrifying temper.
But when his grandmother drinks his special new potion the results are explosive and the most incredible things begin to happen – it’s the start of George’s amazing adventure!
Ed Thorpe plays George, Richard Mullins plays George’s Dad, twin sisters Debroah Vale and Tess Vale play the roles of Grandmar and George’s Mum respectively and Tom Eykelhof plays the Giant Chicken and also acts as assistant stage manager.
Since 1992 The Birmingham Stage Company have produced more Dahl shows than any other company in the world. Their recent hit shows have included Horrible Histories and the world premiere of Gangsta Granny by David Walliams.
BSC’s Founder and Actor/Manager, Neal Foster, said today: “We are delighted to be celebrating Roald Dahl’s centenary with this special production of one of his most popular stories”
George’s Marvellous Medicine is adapted by David Wood, the UK’s leading children’s playwright. David began writing while at Oxford University and his 70-plus plays for children are performed worldwide, and he was dubbed ‘the national children’s dramatist’ by The Times. 2013 saw his adaptation of Michelle Magorian’s Goodnight Mister Tom win the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and Family, for which his adaptation of Judith Kerr’s The Tiger Who Came to Tea was nominated the previous year. There were also tours of his adaptation of Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach and Eric Hill’s Spot’s Birthday Party. In 2004 he was awarded the OBE for services to drama and literature.
George is the greatest family entertainment for all over fours plus well behaved grown- ups – particularly non-grumpy grannies!
