Improved day care facilities for adults have been officially re-opened in Horwich thanks to a £1 million building refurbishment.
The Brazley Centre, off Cedar Grove, was launched by the Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris on Thursday, January 19.
The new hub involved the transfer of older adults’ day care provision from its previous home in the nearby former Brazley Library plus day care provision for adults with learning difficulties from The Hilton Suite in Horwich Leisure Centre.
The day services are run by Bolton Cares Ltd, the borough’s largest provider of social care.
The building is also home to a community centre, which has benefited from a refresh.
Work to the centre, which was funded by Bolton Council, has included a new extension to the front of the building which incorporates a welcoming entrance, sensory room and activity room.
Visitors to the older adults day centre can enjoy aromatherapy sessions and have their hair and nails done in fresh, bright surroundings.
There is also a new, pleasant conservatory style extension to the side of the building which provides a lounge area, plus improved outdoor space for both sets of service users.
In addition, improvements have been made to car parking and the drop-off area.
The Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, said: “I’m delighted to officially reopen the Brazley Centre after we committed £1 million to its refurbishment. This shows our dedication to services for older people and for those with disabilities in the borough.
“Both groups were in accommodation that, while functional, could have been improved for our service users. When the opportunity arose to invest in the Brazley Centre, we could see the benefit of creating a lovely, bespoke space for our day centres. It’s now an excellent facility for the local community.”
Chairman of the Bolton Cares Steering Committee, Cllr Linda Thomas, said: “We are so pleased with the new facilities for service users.
“Bolton Cares provides services for some of the most vulnerable residents in the borough and it makes it all the more worthwhile to have a lovely building for the day care activities to take place in. Everyone who uses the building loves it.”
