Horwich Leisure Centre project opens to the public for Career event

Willmott Dixon is opening its Horwich Leisure centre project in Bolton to the public as part of a week-long event aimed at attracting young people into a career in construction.

The centre, which is jointly funded by Bolton Council and Bolton Community Leisure Trust, is taking part in Open Doors 2017 – a national industry wide event (March 27 to April 1), delivered by Build UK in partnership with CITB.

The Horwich Open Doors event will take place on Tuesday 28 th March, with three one-hour sessions available: 10am, 1pm and 3pm.

The event will give young people behind the scenes access to some of the most prestigious construction projects across the UK.

Horwich Leisure Centre will provide modern leisure facilities encouraging more people to be active and live longer healthier lives. It will provide a 25m six lane pool, 100 station fitness suite, spin and dance studios, four court sports hall and a new car park.

People interested in getting on site can book at www.opendoors.construction.

Once on site, visitors will exclusively find out exactly what it takes to create the iconic buildings of the future. They will then be encouraged to find out more about potential careers in construction and get to meet a people in a range of roles.

It is a great platform for us to showcase the hard work that goes into building these landmark buildings and for the public to get behind the scenes and find out more about construction.”

Leader of Bolton Council, Cllr Cliff Morris, added: “I’m really pleased that Horwich Leisure Centre is joining in this national event. This is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at a major ‘live’ construction site, see how work is progressing first hand, and find out about career opportunities.

“The new leisure centre is hugely important for Horwich and when the work is complete there will be a fantastic flagship facility for the whole of the west of the borough to use for many years to come.”
