This weekend on Johnson Fold #Boltonlive hosted a community information event on the Saturday at Johnson Fold Ucan and a small Litter pick. We were Joined by The Johnson Fold Residents association and the Foxes of the fold and a Bolton Council recycling officer. During the information event local residents were given information regarding recycling and waste and an introduction to the great work of both the Residents Association and The foxes and #BoltonLive

Chris green MP also paid a visit to Johnson Fold to chat to #Boltonlive through #FacebookLive

On the Sunday we had a big community litter pick with music (Kindly provided by the residents association), Food (Kindly donated by the team at Holland’s Pies Official , The Foxes Of The Fold & Johnson Fold Residents’ Association), Free Face painting by the amazing Partyworx – Personalised Gifts and of course an array of prizes (We will come to them shortly)

Sunday`s event kicked off in style at 9am when 15 The Litter Pickers of North Bolton volunteers hit the estate and did a whopping FIFTY bags between them all. Big thanks needs to go to them all and Eileen Mckay Crowe plus Bolton Green Umbrella for their support in getting this off the ground.

Mc Donalds Chorley Old Road sent down 5 volunteers at Just after 9 am and promptly set to work clearing a kids play area and the associated streets around it. Thanks to all 5 of them who came down and got stuck in with vigor throughout the day.

We also had Local residents coming in from 9.15 am and we owe them a massive debt of gratitude for giving up their Sunday Morning in order to help get things clean.

At 11 am i was in my element with maps and Colour coded high lighters (My idea of heaven… i know ..i`m strange) (Note i managed to chip a bone in my foot and get ligament damage 3/4 of the way through planning the weekend so i was relegated to home base on crutches) and dispatching volunteers all over the estate.

By 12 noon we had the food on the go including this great donation of Two dozen snacks from Hollands and Donations from Bolton at Home and The residents association

The music was going and Charlotte from Partyworx was face painting and word had got around that we were giving away some amazing prizes.

We had-

2- A wine and Cheese Hamper donated by The Johnson Fold Residents Association

3- A sweets Hamper donated by The Johnson Fold Residents Association

4- A £50 off a Holiday from Tina Tominson Travel Counsellor

5- Bag of Coffee from The Coffee Grind on Newport Street

6- T shirt and Lanyard from our friends at For the Love of Sci-Fi

All you had to do to have a chance to win one of these amazing prizes was to get on down to the Ucan , Grab a hoop, bag, picker and high viz and bring back a bag of litter!

Great big thank you to all the companies and groups that donated prizes

If the children brought any of the sparkly litter back they got a little prize when they got back to home base.

At this point a special mention needs to go out to Shonagh Short and Lisa Bradley and Paula Rowson & Bolton at Home for opening up the Ucan for both days and for helping us out with specifics of the event and all their help.

Thanks also need to go to rain-poncho.co.uk for lots of rain ponchos that although we did not need them this weekend (Phew!) will be used to support another groups event this Summer

By the time Bolton Council came to collect the rubbish at 3pm (Thanks to their team for coming out and also Love Bolton Hate litter for their support) we had had around 60-70 volunteers dispatched with Bags , Hoops and Litter pickers to large swathes of the estate.. In fact we managed to collect 100 (and a quarter) bags…

We have also identified some Hot Spot areas including larger rubbish which is in the process of being reported to the Council (Me and my High Lighter pens again on a different map… every volunteer picker over the weekend was asked if they spot any large fly tips to take a photo and send us the location)

It does not stop there either… Plans are afoot to create a brand new litter picking group on the Johnson Fold estate and us here at #BoltonLive will be fully supporting the initiative. (If any other local areas are interested in setting up their own litter pick get in touch and we can send you in the right direction).

Over the course of the weekend we spoke to lots of residents who all have differing views on everything to Slim Bins , Litter and recycling and we hope as a responsible media network to be able to work with them all and act as a conduit between groups to help keep Johnson Fold clean.

This event was a pleasure to organise and run and we are all overwhelmed by the community spirit shown over the weekend. Every single person should be really proud of what they achieved!

Stay tuned to #BoltonLive for more #community action events!
