Food festival flavour today

A flavour of Bolton Food and Drink Festival will be coming to the town centre this Saturday (July 1).

The festival, which is organised by Bolton Council in association with Aldi, takes place over the August Bank Holiday weekend (25 to 28).

And this Saturday (July 1), between 11am and 3pm on Deansgate, shoppers are invited to come along to an information point and find out about all the jam packed weekend, and the special events on offer.

Sponsors and partners including Aldi; Carrs Pasties; Greenhalghs; Last Drop Hotel, and RRG Group will be informing visitors of their exciting plans and offers at this year’s festival. Free goodies including pizza cutters from Stateside Foods will also be available.

Children can also find out more information about the ‘Kids with Hattitude’ competition. The competition ties in with the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party which will take place in a marquee throughout the festival.

Continuing with the Alice in Wonderland theme, children can also make their very own rabbit ears and tail at Bolton Library.

Free face painting will also be on offer at Crompton Place Shopping Centre (unit next door to Subway).

To tie in with this weekend’s Strongman 2017 event, local chef Mike Harrison will be cooking a meal fit for a Strongman at Bolton Market and serving it up to a contestant.

Around 75 men and women from England, Wales and Scotland will be battling out for strongman and strongwoman titles in Victoria Square.

The festival over the August Bank Holiday will feature demonstrations from celebrity chefs including two Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines, Strictly Come Dancing star Ainsley Harriott, co-presenter of Channel 4 Sunday Brunch Simon Rimmer and festival favourite James Martin.

Last year, more than 263,000 people attended and the festival won a coveted national award for having the best food market in the country.

Leader of Bolton Council, Councillor Cliff Morris, said: “Bolton Food and Drink Festival is a highlight of the year and once again we have a fabulous menu of events and activities for everyone, from foodies to crafty kids.

“We would like to encourage residents to come into town on Saturday and find out more and get a taster of what is to come at the main festival.

“We would also urge residents to buy their tickets as soon as possible to avoid missing out on what promises to be the biggest and best festival yet.”

Tickets will be available on Saturday from Bolton Octagon Theatre, via or by calling 01204 520661.

Tickets for the celebrity chef cookery demos cost from £10 (adults) and £5 (child). Organisers have also added new special ticketed events this year.
