Booths release 2017 Christmas Book

Award-winning Northern food and wine retailer Booths has unveiled the stars of its Christmas ranges. The family owned business, recently crowned Supermarket of the Year at the Decanter magazine Retail Awards, delivers to the nation at Christmas, meaning food lovers across Britain can enjoy a taste of Booths Country.

Established in 1847, for six generations the family retailer has worked with hill farmers, craft bakers, butchers, cheesemakers and fishermen and their Christmas range is a celebration of Booths’ Northern food stars, from the Yorkshire dales to the Cumbrian fells to the distilleries of Burnley and beyond. Many of these products are produced exclusively for Booths.

Orders open from 4th October and close on the 15th December for Christmas orders and the 21st for New Year orders. Orders can be made in store or online at All orders placed before the end of October will be placed into a complementary prize draw to win a luxury holiday in the Lake District worth £750.

With a rich food heritage taken from both sides of the Pennines, Booths has developed a mouth-watering quiche made with the best of Yorkshire and Lancashire. Created by Yorkshire’s TRUEfoods and made with ‘Mouth Almighty’ mature Lancashire cheese, strong English mustard, whole grain mustard, slow cooked onion, ‘Riggwelter Ale’ from Yorkshire’s Black Sheep Brewery and Worcestershire sauce, the delicious quiche is  covered in savoury custard. Yorkshireman Nigel Sampson returned to his roots in 1990 following two years as estate manager on the Isle of Jura on the West Coast of Scotland. Using his experience and passion of deer farming he has turned a one man farm into a company that produces award-winning prime venison – Holme Farmed Venison. Available as a French trimmed rack of venison, a boneless loin joint, boneless haunch joint, or for something a little easier there’s one readily stuffed with apricot and brandy sausage.

A rum laced, deliciously fruity and rich chocolate cake topped with luxury Belgian chocolate.  Lisa and her team of seven, bake goodies for Booths all year round and at this time of year, spoil us with specialist Christmas cakes including her Damson Brandy Fruit Cake made with local Lyth Valley damsons. Lakes Distillery Gin and Vodka £30 per 70cl bottle

Savour a long, slow sip of Lakes Distillery gin or vodka and you’ll taste a bit of the Lake District itself. They are deeply connected to the land and waters that surround them and actually distil lake waters to create their spirits. Take Lakes Gin. It starts with fifteen botanicals, many of which are foraged in the Cumbrian wildlife reserve. “The biggest ingredient is our Cumbrian juniper but you’ve got hawthorn, heather and bilberry in there as well,” says Katie Read from the distillery. “So it’s connected to the fell. It couldn’t be from anywhere else.”

A Lancashire classic, with a history as rich as its filling. Tasty butter, sliced potato and onion topped with a shortcrust pastry lid.


Blue Cow Pie (Great Taste Award Winner 2017) £15 Weight 1kg – Serves 4 to 6

Produced for Booths by Lancashire master butchers Altham’s, this delicious pie is shortcrust pastry filled with British beef and button mushrooms in a rich beef and Garstang blue cheese gravy. Topped with a puff pastry lid.


Batch Premium Gin £35 70cl

Produced in Burnley by a small team of avid gin experts, Batch Brew is Burnley’s first ever gin distillery. Their gin is made with frankincense and myrrh and won a silver medal at the San Francisco World Spirits competition in 2016.
