Bolton residents are being invited to enjoy a family festival with a difference this weekend – as the Willow Hey Festival in Farnworth returns for a third year.
The festival, to be held on Saturday July 13 at the Willow Hey Project, next to Doe Hey reservoir, offers live music, barbecue food, arts and crafts, green woodworking workshops and other family-friendly activities.
It’s also an opportunity for visitors to find out more about the activities, events and wellbeing support available at Willow Hey.
Over recent years volunteers have transformed a one-acre former allotment site into a ‘green oasis’ to provide local families with lessons on growing their own organic food and preparing and cooking healthy meals.
Willow Hey is also home to the inspirational ‘Men in Sheds’ project which helps to tackle social isolation, loneliness and depression in men through woodwork, carpentry and gardening sessions.
Chris Wood, community development manager for Bolton at Home, which supports the festival, said: “The Willow Hey Festival is a relaxed, family-friendly day out for all the community to enjoy and we’re looking forward to it immensely.
“We’ve lots of great music and activities planned. It’s also a great opportunity to find out more about the support on offer through the Willow Hey Project and Men in Sheds.
“Both these projects have brought people together, helping them learn and share new skills, increase their confidence and meet new friends.”
The festival starts at 1pm. More information is available on the Willow Hey Project’s Facebook page HERE.
