REview – Hairspray

25th October 2021

The international musical phenomenon Hairspray returns to Manchester this year!

After breaking box office records and delighting audiences in the West-End, on Broadway and on the big screen since 1988, this spectacular musical-comedy has quite the pedigree

The front of The Palace Theatre, Manchester, was absolutely alive with anticipation. Long vibrant queues, people excitedly chatting and digging around in purses looking for their covid passes and very prominent we’re the amazing Hairspray hair styles and extravagant costumes.

Once underway it was quickly evident that this was no ordinary show. The cast were picked for their parts to perfection. With standout performances from each actor it was really amazing to see how tight the choreography, flamboyant the costumes and how smooth the harmonies could get.

This well known story of Tracy Turnblad, and her sidekick Penny, transports is back to the early 60s, where the kids were dragging the grownups. Into the future kicking and screaming. The use of humour, music and dancing to engage the audience in topics such as segregation, body shaming,

A special mention has to go to mom and dad Turnblad, played by Alex Bourne And Norman Pace respectively. Their timing, humour and sensitivity really brought the interactions between all the characters on stage to life.

This is a must see show… you can’t stop this beat!

Tickets for the show in Manchester are available  from 25 OCT 2021 – 30 OCT 2021 – more info here:
