Waitress – Opera House Manchester Review – by James

I had the utmost pleasure of seeing waitress on the 09/11/2021, and it was a truly magical experience. The show really captivated on such important topics surrounding domestic violence in such a way that it enthralled you to want to learn more. Musically, the show was pitch perfect. I was moved by the actor’s ability to express their emotion through song, which as a vocalist is no easy feat!

Waitress has music and lyrics by American singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles and a book by Jessie Nelson based on the film of the same name by Adrienne Shelly. The Waitress Musical is currently in its third year on Broadway. It made history as the first show with an all-female creative team. There was a vibrance amongst the audience which truly carried on throughout the show. You became emotionally invested in the character development and you were excited to see in which direction the show was heading.

The stage itself was incredible! The layout, the props, the background, it all truly tied into a magical performance given, and showed the real care and dedication given by each individual. I truly enjoyed every minute of it.

Finally, I would like to give a special mention to Lucie Jones, who sung “She Used to be Mine” whilst sat down wearing a pregnancy costume! That is absolutely insane, yet really shows how powerful a vocalist you really are! Bravo to all.
